Malawi is a small country, narrow and landlocked, and shares boundaries with Zambia in the West
Mozambique in the East South and South West and Tanzania in the North. It has an area of 118484 km2
of which 94276 km2 island. The country is divided into 3 administrative regions namely Northern, Central,
and Southern Regions. The country is further divided into 28 administrative districts headed by district
commissioners who are responsible for delivering decentralized social services including health. The
population is estimated at 14.4 with a growth rate of 2.3% ( 2008 National Census)
